Virginia gets out of the office last and we tell her class doesn't start for another fifteen minutes, but we need to do something beforehand.
Me: "Okay! It's time to compare schedules!"
Allison: "What do you have for first period? And teacher?"
Virginia: "Hold on, I still have to open this thing!"
Me: "Global Studies. Mr. Watson."
Virginia: "Same."
Allison: "Aww, creative writing. Mrs. Logan. Well at least you have one of us to show you around in the morning, Virginia."
Virginia: "Second period? I have forensics. Mr. Eberly."
Me: "Geometry. Ms. Daniels."
Allison: "Whoops, I spoke too soon. Home Ec. Mrs. Loel."
I see Virginia start to inspect her list more. I know she's trying to memorize her classes in order so she doesn't have to keep looking at her list. I know when she gets to the bottom of studying her teachers, that when her face contorts she notices something out-of-the-ordinary.
Virginia: "Hey, guys. For Math AP..."
Me and Allison: "Uh, huh?"
Virginia: "I don't recognize the name. Take a look at your sheet."
We both look down and immediately take notice of the name we had never seen before in this school. It was a nice name, but it was just odd to have a new teacher in Senior Year. We all thought that we would have the same teachers as last year because that's what our teachers said.
Me: "Mr. Archuleta?"
Virginia: "Yeah! Ever heard of him?"
Allison: "Nope. I hope he's nice."
Virginia: "His name sounds nice to me. I don't know how a name sounds nice though."
Me: "How can a name SOUND nice?"
Virginia: "I just told you, I don't know! It just does!"
Allison: "Alrighty then. What period do you have Mr. Arrrrrchuleta?" she says in that exact accent.
Me: "8th period."
Virginia: "Same."
Allison: "Me too! We all have at least one class together!"
Virginia: "Well if we keep checking we'll find more."
But we didn't find more, but we didn't have much time to continue inspecting this sheet of names and of classes. We just basically skimmed over to see what we had in store. Virginia said she can't wait to meet some of the new students that just transferred in. To be honest, Allison and I really did like meeting new people so we were excited, too.
Bell: "RIIIIIINNNGGG!"
Assistant Principal: "All students should start heading to first period at this time."
Me: "Okay see you, Alli, talk to you the next class we have together. If we pick seats, save an empty one for me, okay?"
Allison: "Okay! Same for you, Gin? Well, you'll be there for me so save a seat for me."
Virginia: "Wouldn't dream about having it any other way."
As Virginia and Allison being to turn around,
Me: "HOLD ON!"
Both: "Yeah?"
Virginia: "Make it quick! I don't want to be late!"
Me: "High fives as a toast to a fantastic end to our high school years and a wonderful beginning to the rest of our lives."
And we all smack hands together with one another and take off. I interlock arms with Virginia and we walk down the hallway toward the global studies with my favorite teacher, Mr. Watson.
Narration:
Little did Virginia know that this day would be the start of the rest of her life.
