Allison: "GIN! I missed you!"
Me: "I missed you too! How was your summer?"
Allison: "Great! And yours?"
Me: "Fantastic!"
Allison: "Oh, here comes Jen."
From the front door of the school, my friend Jennifer walks in with her new clothes and her new purse. She texted me that she wanted to have a new style this year because it was our Senior year in high school.
Jennifer: "Where were you all summer? I tried calling you!"
Me: "You know I was in Florida for all of July!"
Jennifer: "Oh right! Sorry."
Allison: "So you know what classes you have yet?"
Me: "Oh-no. Where do I find that out?"
Jennifer: "You should've gotten your schedule in the mail, we did."
Me: "Oh, I never did," I get a little upset because I want to see what classes I have with my friends.
Allison: "Don't worry! The office has another copy."
Me: "Okay, let's go get it!"
Allison and Jennifer interlock arms with me as a symbol of our friendship and we walk to the office. As soon as we see a few kids staring at us in a negative way, we drop our arms to our sides. We decide it wasn't the best idea to do on our first day of Senior Year. We start laughing as we reach the office.
We smile and open the door to the office where see a sweet-looking lady. She has dark brown hair and wore a smile. She was wearing a white puffed-sleeve shirt and a navy blue skirt. She was a young woman, not much older than 30.
Ms. Hannigan: "Hello Ladies, what can I do for you?"
Allison: "Oh hi, Ms. Hannigan."
Ms. Hannigan: "Allison! How are you, honey?"
Allison leans in and whispers to me that she was her neighbor.
Allison: "Just fine. How are you?"
Ms. Hannigan: "Great! First day of school?"
Allison: "Yeah, just helping my friends Virginia and Jennifer out. Which reminds me...could you please give us a copy of Virginia's schedule for class?"
Ms. Hannigan: "Surely," as she walks into the back room with all the documents. She pulls out a file with almost nothing in it. It says my name on it. For some reason I kind of felt violated when I saw it. I guessed it was because I was never used to having a file on myself, like they already knew everything about me. She places the folder back inside the filing cabinet and comes out with a single paper in her hand.
Ms. Hannigan: "Here you go, Sweetie," as she hands me the paper. "You're smart, aren't you?"
I laugh and say, "How do you know?"
Ms. Hannigan: "I just saw it and it said AP for almost everything! You're a smart cookie!" She says in an awkward tone I can barely describe.
"Why thank you, Ms. Hannigan! I bet you're really smart too!" I reply back.
"I guess because I work here," she says with a kind of awe in her voice.
Jennifer: "Gin, we're going to be late for class!!"
Me: "Okay thank you a lot, Ms. Hannigan. But we have to go."
Ms. Hannigan: "Have a great first day, girls!"
We all respond at the same time, "Thanks." And we head off to go to class or so I thought.
